The largest party in the
Legislature-Parliament, Nepali Congress, has decided not to obstruct the
execution of the impeachment motion against Chief of the Commission for
the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Lokman Singh Karki.
The central committee meeting of the
party held today concluded that the impeachment motion should be moved
ahead as per the House rule and procedures.
Stating that a motion of impeachment
against the CIAA Chief was moved to the House as per the constitution,
the meeting thus decided not to interfere in its execution.
The meeting chaired by party President
Sher Bahadur Deuba reached to a conclusion that the Impeachment
Recommendation Committee should be allowed to look into the motion
freely, according to party Spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu.
Prior to this, most of the members
speaking in the meeting had expressed suspicion over the impeachment
motion that the CPN (Maoist Centre), the party that is leading the
government, together with the main opposition party, the CPN (UML), has
registered in the parliament, without informing the ruling coalition
partner.
They stressed that the party should take
an appropriate decision on the matter only after making a deep study on
the background of the impeachment motion.
Only youth leaders Bishwa Prakash
Sharma, Gagan Thapa, Surendra Pandey, Dhanraj Gurung, Pradip Poudel and
Badri Pandey have so far openly expressed their views that the party
should decide in favour of the impeachment motion.
