Sobita, a Nepali climate activist, has made it to the top 20 list of Global Youth Video Competition on Climate Change. The competition is run by Television for the Environment (tve) and UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) with contestants participating from all around the world. Sobita, who submitted her video titled as “Activities against climate change” has been short listed for the top 20 honor out of many videos submitted in the competition. Sabita starts her video by emphasizing the beauty Nepal with a series of Himalayas and pleasant weather the country has to offer. Soon she warns the viewers that besides its natural beauty, Nepal, like most other countries, has been a victim of the increasing global warming effect. She mentions all the natural catastrophes, such as harsh drought and landslides Nepal has experienced in recent years. Moreover, she points out the environmental impact left by 2015 earthquake. Sovita took an initiative to tackle these issues by talking to the locals, researching the ideas and organizing events such as planting trees in the community. She also mentions the initiative, such as constructing eco-friendly homes, using compost manure and avoiding use of plastic products to help environment. Sobita concludes here video by saying “Mother Earth is a common home to all of us. If everyone starts to make small effort in the community, earth will be beautiful and full of life again”.
