China Unveils Weaponized Robocop
7:53 PMChina’s
National Defense University recently debuted the country’s first
‘intelligent security robot’ called AnBot, meant to patrol areas prone
to violence. The droid was on show at the Chongqing Hi-Tech Fair last
week and is expected to be used to patrol areas prone to civil unrest or
violence. The robot has four high-definition cameras which it can use to
snap pictures of travelers’ faces, and then send them immediately to
human coworkers for further analysis, People’s Daily reports. However,
the Anbot isn’t just some glorified security camera. In case of
emergencies it can also incapacitate threats via caddle prod of justice.
“AnBot has a high degree of autonomy,” Xiao Xiangjiang from the
National Defense University said at the event. “It can patrol, avoid
obstacles, identify and recharge on its own.“It is equipped with weapons
to prevent and control violence by remote control. Moreover, it could
be a service provider, which makes it more practical.
